It’s very heartening to note that you all remember 13th of December which is my birthday and convey your wholehearted blessings to me. This always gives me a feeling that I’m one among your family members. I thank God for such a boon.
Much to your expectations the release of ‘Nagavalli’ is on time, i.e., on 16th of December. And I thank all of you who were present at the audio function and shared your well wishes as well as comments in the form of letters to me. Though the actor has these names, the Bollywood bombshell, Mallika Sherawat has given Sallu a new name which no one expected.

Mallika Sherawat was asked by one of her fans in her microblog as what she thinks of Sallu, she replied to the fan that Salman Khan is a Pussycat. The actress also added that do not get so curious about the name and it all means good.

Namitha Claims That Her Role in Ilaignan Will Take Her Spotlight.

Ilaignan, which has been directed by well-known director Sureshkrissna, actress Namitha is going big on her character. This movie will be the first tamil film in 15 months being Jaganmohini her last film which hit the screens in 2009. Namitha claims that her role in Ilaignan will take her spotlight.
Namitha the actress, "After Jaganmohini, I wanted to do a powerful character in Tamil. My character in Ilaignan is exactly that. I play a manipulative woman in the film.
She also added that her character will be comprehensive about her role in the movie Ilaignan so is the reason she agreed to do the character when the director explained the role. Sureshkrissna told me, ‘Just trust me’. This is a character that is bound to be talked about like the Neelambari character which Ramya did in Padaiyappa."

History Of Tamil Cinema

Tamil Film Industry is termed as ‘Kollywood‘. The Kollywood film industry is based in Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu. The name is a conflation of Kodambakkam with the American film industry capital of Hollywood. Kodambakkam is an area in Chennai with a large number of film industry people work and live in. There are a good number of film studios also present in Kodambakkam.
 
The Tamil Film industry enjoys the widest visibility of any regional South Asian cinema. Many of Indian cinema’s popular figures had made their debut in Tamil films. Bollywood actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai made her debut in the Tamil film ‘Iruvar‘ before entering the national film industry. Music Composer A.R Rahman also had his debut in Tamil industry.
One of the most unique features of Tamil cinema is the way the films has been used and exploited to make political commentary and win Elections. Screenwriter C. N Annadurai and actors M. G Ramachandran utilized their films to move into political office in the 1940s and 1950s.

Early Years of Tamil Film Industry :

The Tamil cinema had its beginning in 1897 when M.Edwards screened the first ever movie show in South India at Victoria Memorial Hall in Madras. The first Tamil Talkie was ‘Kalidas‘ was screened in 1931. A.Narayanan started the first sound studio in South India in 1934 and his ‘Srinivasa Kalyanam‘ (1934) became the first Tamil Talkie to be produced in a Madras studio. Gemini Studios was emerged in the 1940s and produced great hits like ‘Madana Kamarajan’, ‘Nandhanaar’ and ‘Chandralekha’. The first Tamil film to be successful in both Tamil and Hindi versions was Chandralekha.
The success of early Tamil sound films led to the construction of up-to-date studios in the South during 1935-1936. In the 1960s, director K. Balachander created movies with bold themes in cinematic styles and gave birth to All-India stars like Kamal Hasan, Rajnikanth and Sridevi.
C. N. Annadurai (former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu) and M.Karunanidhi (the present Chief Minister of Tamilnadu), both started their career in the film industry as script writers. S.S.Vasan, M.K.Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, T.R.Sundaram, S.M.Sriramalu Naidu and Jupiter Somu were some of the early film-makers in the Tamil Film industry. Gemini Ganesan, M.G.Ramachandran(MGR – former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu), Sivaji Ganesan, Siva Kumar and many other actors donned the Tamil films in the early period. There were many popular actresses also like Saroja Devi, Devika, Jayalalitha (former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu), Sridevi and Vijaya Kumari.

  Today’s Tamil Cinema :
According to the Central Board of Film Certification, the Tamil film industry ranked third in terms of the number of films produced in 2003. In 2005, Kollywood produced three new releases every week on average, and an annual turnover of over Rs.23,205 million from ticket sales of 600 million. Tamil films enjoyed consistent popularity among Tamil speakers in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia. Tamil films have recently become popular in Japan, South Africa, Canada, and the UK. For example, Rajini Kant’s ‘Muthu’ was screened for a record period of time in Japan recently.
Many movies like ‘Anniyan’ and ‘Chandramukhi’ were simultaneously released in USA. Tamil films enjoy good patronage in the neighbouring southern States like Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. In Kerala, Tamil films are released directly in Tamil itself, but in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the dubbed versions of the films are preferred. Many Tamil films were dubbed into Hindi and other Indian languages. The recent film ‘Anniyan’ became the first Tamil film to be dubbed into French.

Superstars in Tamil Films :

Kamal Hasan and Rajini Kant are the Superstars in Tamil films. There are many other actors like Prabhu, Vijay, Ajith Kumar, Madhavan, Surya, Vikram in the industry. Kushboo, Simran, Jyothika, Asin and Trisha are the recent sensations among actresses.

Rajinikanth :

The Superstar Rajnikanth takes home a salary 35 crore per film. He acts in one film every two years recently. Rajinikanth performs predominantly in leading roles in high-budget and major studio films, ranging from romantic comedies and drama to action thrillers. RajniKant has about 63000 registered Fan Clubs across the world.
Rajini Kant’s film ‘Sivaji‘ released on June 15th, 2007, receives huge opening now. It is released in Theatres world wide in approximately 2,900 theatres. Sivaji is one of the most-awaited movies this year. This film credits some of the biggest names like director S Shankar, music director A R Rahman, art director Thotta Tharani, cinematographer K V Anand and many more. The film also stars Shriya opposite him, and has Nayanthara doing an item number. The film, prior to release, has re-written several Indian records at the box-office starting with the most costly production to date with 60 crores, overtaking, the 2002 Bollywood film, Devdas which cost the producer 50 Indian crores.

Kamal Haasan :

Kamal Haasan started his career as a child artist. He is an accomplished actor who received India’s third highest civilian honour, the Padma Shri for his services to Indian cinema in 1990. His most popular films include Moondram Pirai (1982), Saagara Sangamam (1983), Nayagan (1987), Indian (1996) and Hey Ram (2000). In 2007, Kamal Haasan has attempted to portray ten different characters in his upcoming project, ‘Dasavatharam’, therefore making the attempt a possible World Record. Kamal is the first actor to turn his fan clubs into registered non-profit service organizations. He acted in many different roles in many films like Indian, Avvai Shanmugi and Hey Ram.

Surya

Surya is another popular actor in Tamil films. He is the son of Tamil actor Sivakumar and he is married to the fellow actress Jyothika recently. He acted in many popular films like Ghajini, Perazhagan, Kaaka Kaaka, Aaru and June R.

Kushboo

Kushboo was a leading actress in Tamil cinema in the 80′s and 90′s. She acted opposite to the superstars Rajni Kant and Kamal Haasan in many films. Apart from Tamil movies, she also acted in various movies in Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam.

Jyothika

Jyothika is a leading Tamil film actress. She is married to actor Surya recently. She is regarded as a Superstar in South Indian Cinema because of her continuous string of hits. She is paid the highest salary among Indian actresses, beating Trisha Krishnan and Kareena Kapoor. K.Balachander, Mani Ratnam and Shankar are some of the popular film-makers of the Tamil industry today. There are many other leading names in the industry like K.Bagyaraj, Kathir, Balu Mahendra, Bharathiraaja, C.V.Sridhar, Durai and J.Mahendran.

Industry Trends:

Average annual film output in Tamil film industry has risen steadily in the 20th century. The Tamil film industry accounts for approx. 1% of the gross domestic product of the state of Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government has made provisions for an entertainment tax exemption for Tamil movies having pure Tamil word(s) in the title. This is in accordance with Government Order 72 passed on 22 July 2006.

Cinema Halls :

There are about 2,400 cinema halls in Kollywood, of which around 125 are located in the Chennai district. Show rentals range from Rs.700 in C-centres to as much as Rs.7,000 in A-centres for an average 700-seat screen.
The Tamil film industry is one of biggest and most successful film industries in India. It is also one of the oldest film industries which popularized cinema in India.

Sneha to Star as Police in ‘Bhavani’

Smiling beauty Sneha is one among the few actresses who has managed to be in the race for such a long time. The actress never fails to accept challenging roles which has earned a stable place in Kollywood. Sneha, has something to be happy about as the movie ‘Bhavani’ which portrays her as a action heroine is ready for release this month. The movie was delayed for a long period of time for some untold reasons. The film is produced and directed by G Kicha and happens to be the remake of ‘Vaijayanthi IPS’.

“An action movie with a message, ‘Bhavani’ has been shaped up well. Sneha has taken risks in stunt sequences and this is going to be a landmark film in his career,” says the director. “You could find a different Sneha while watching ‘Bhavani’. She fits well in the role of a police officer and took the character as a challenge. We suggested Sneha that a body double could be used to avoid any risk. But the actress was particular in performing the stunts by herself” he adds.

Bollywood’s Top 5 Actors/ Heroes of 2010

Here are 2010′s list of top 5 hotties of Bollywood, based on their hits and misses in the box office.
Standing in the 5th position is our very own chocolate boy Shasha (Shahid Kapoor), with not much number of movie hits this year. This years release of Shahid Kapoor include Chance Pe Dance alongside Genelia D’Souza and Paathshala, alongside Ayisha Takia. He also had the long pending release Milenge Milenge with his ex girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, which was also a dud at the box office.
But more than his movies, Shahid was spotted a lot for his relationship with Priyanka Chopra, after their on screen chemistry in last year’s Kaminey. Shahid’s upcoming movies include, his father Pankaj Kapoor’s directorial venture and their home production Mausam.
Our fourth position is filled by Imran Khan, the cousin on the perfectionist of Bollywood Aamir Khan. After the debut Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Imran has come a long way, with two releases this year, both of which are love stories.
I Hate Luv storys against Sonam Kapoor and Break Ke Baad with the doe-eyed dimple beauty Deepika Padukone. Though they were not a huge commercial success, Imran’s status as a bankable hero has increased with both the movies, after the not so successful Luck and Kidnap, last year. Imran khan is doing the movie with Katrina Kaif titled Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, which is to release next year.
Though Imran’s love affair with his on screen heroines is not a debatable one, as he has a steady relationship of over 8 years with his soon to be wedded Avantika Malik, Imran is still considered one of the upcoming youngest hot heroes of Bollywood.

Third place goes to Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi. With the releases that include Housefull, an out and out commercial comedy movie, Khatta Meetha a not so successful drama alongside Trisha directed by Priyadarshan and the Diwali release, Sci-fic comedy/romantic movie Action Replayy also an unsuccessful movie despite Akshay sharing screen space with Aishwarya Rai, he made quite a number of entries in the silver screen, though he was busy with his Television Cookery Reality Show, Master Chef India. Yet Akshay is still standing tall with the Chirstmas eve release Tees Maar Khan, directed by Farah Khan, where he is paired opposite his lucky charm Katrina Kaif.
Akki, is also busy in the coming years with the line up of movies like Patiala House (with Anushka Sharma), Thank You, Desi Boyz ( with Deepika Padukone), Joker (With Sonakshi Sinha) and Housefull 2 (With Deepika/Katrina) and the older he gets the hotter he is, though a married man and with a kid!

Our second position is shared by two heartthrobs – Ranbir Kapoor and and the Greek God Hrithik Roshan. After as not so successful Saawariya, Ranbir had a dream run in Bollywood we must say. Ranbir’s political drama Raajneeti was a successful one at the box office and was even critically appreciated for his acting abilities. His latest rom-com/travalogue love story Anjaana Anjaani alongside Priyanka Chopra though dint do well at the box office, was appreciated for the lead actor’s spontaneious acting. Ranbir still holds good with his future projects like Rock star, Heer Ranjha, Barfree.
Hrithik Roshan had a dull beginning with Kites which dint fly high up in the sky. The year ends’ release with his lady luck Aishwarya Rai Guzaarish under Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction was appreciated for his acting and the movie is doing good at the box office too! Even our yesteryear Bollywood Diva and the dancing queen Madhuri Dixit appreciated Hirthik and had given two thumbs up for our Daggu’s acting and dancing talents! Hrithik upcoming movies include Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Paani and also plans to work on the remake of Agneepath with Karan Johar.
Numero Uno position in our count down goes to the fearless cop Chulbul Pandey a.k.a Robin hood Pandey Salman Khan, with his un beatable commercial movie of the year Dabangg alongside the debut sensation Sonakshi Sinha. Though his dream project Veer was a complete disaster at the box office, early this year, he comes in a special appearance alongside his sweetheart (or not) Katrina Kaif in Tees Maar Khan for a Khwali styled song, which is already creating a lot of buzz! Sallu also made a guest appearance in the movie Prem Kaa Game which released this year.
Salman the hunky bad boy of Bollywood, still holds special place in his fans heart and he has continued to entertain us in future with movies like Ready and My Love Story, both of which are remakes of Tamil and Telugu movies.
Salman Khan also was in Media’s constant attention post the success of Dabangg, and also for Katrina’s statement that they are not together, were some of the happenings of the Wanted hero in 2010.

‘Ayyanar’ movie to release on December 10th

 

The much awaiting project ‘Ayyanaar’ is going to see the light of the day on December 10th. The film has Aadhi and Meera Nandan from Mollywood in the lead roles.
The film is a wholesome romantic and sentimental entertainer. Aadhi will be seen in a complete new look and the required make over has been done for him to suit the subject. The best part of the film is Santhanam’s comedy which will definitely bring the roof down.

Celebs at Manamadhan Press Meet Stills

The press meet of Kamal Haasan starrer Manmadhan Ambu held at the Park Sheraton Hotel Adyar, Chennai today. The event was graced by lead stars Kamal Haasan, Trisha, Sangeetha, Madhavan along with the technical crew of the movie. Producer Udhayanidhi Stalin expressed his thanks to the media, Kamal Haasana and director KS Ravi Kumar for the cooperation towards completing the mega budget movie on time.
 

The press meet was initiated with glimpses of videos of the Manmadhan Ambu audio launch event which happened in Singapore. Kamal Haasana and Trisha’s live performance were also screened there. All the stars including Kamal Haasan, while addressing the press never failed to mention about the cruise ship in which most part of the movie was filmed.
Music director Devi Sri Prasad felt happy about working with Kamal Haasan for the first time. He also mentioned that he felt special for the fact that Kamal Haasan has penned lyrics and sung song under his music. He also showered appreciations on choreographer Shobi who has made the stars hake legs gracefully.

Director KS Ravikumar said that Manmadhan Ambu will be a romantic-comedy entertainer with a few action sequences as well. He also added that Manmadhan Ambu will be sent to the Censor Board for the certification on December 10th. After the certification process, Manmadhan Ambu will hit the screens on the scheduled date of December 17th.

The buzz was that Ilayathalapathy Vijay is going to support AIADMK in the next election. Dhobi Ghat as Turned out as Bilingual Movie

 

The perfectionist Aamir Khan, who plans everything to perfection, is in two minds about his forthcoming project, Dhobi Ghat. Dhobi Ghat is the directional debut of Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao. The star is nervous and doubtful about the audience reaction towards ‘Dhobi Ghat’, as the film possess half of English dialogues.


The latest buzz states that Aamir Khan feels, Dhobi Ghat must have a Hindi version too. As of now the producer (Aamir Khan) has decided to release it in a single version in the month of January. Aamir Khan is presently busy dubbing the Hindi version for ‘Dhobi Ghat’. Now Dhobi Ghat as turned out as bilingual movie and the Hindia version release will be for regions where English is not widely spoken.
‘Dhobi Ghat’ has been scheduled for release on January 21. As the time span is too short Aamir Khan is speeding up the dubbing process at a faster pace. Insiders say that Aamir Khan is keen to get the prints ready before a week prior to the release.

Priyanka Chopra Blasts Kareena Kapoor in a Special Bollywood Event

Bebo, Kareena Kapoor and PC Priyanka Chopra, who bonded during Aitraaz and fell out over Shahid Kapoor are in cold war and this one is very evident in a show which had both Bebo and PC. The former was interviewed and the Bebo lady blasted (though they were in cold war Priyanka Chopra of her accent. The lady was not aware that PC would be called in the same TV show.

Bebo commented about PC’s accent and said "I wonder where Priyanka got her accent from?" Priyanka Chopra to the same show with none other than her boyfriend Shahid Kapoor hit her nail strong enough that Kareena wouldn’t bare. PC said that "I want to tell Kareena that I got my accent from the same place where her boyfriend ( Saif Ali Khan) got his.” Chopra also said the TV host and the people who tuned in the show that she, too, had studied overseas and therefore had access to an accent just like so many others in Bollywood.
Priyanka also added that people in the industry did not take Kareena too seriously. "I’m flattered that Kareena thinks I am a good actress," she is said to have remarked. "But otherwise I don’t think people take Bebo too seriously," is what PC reportedly said.
This does not stop there. Chopra also decided to hit the nail more harder on Bebo. When asked when she was asked what she would steal from computers of Bollywood superstars like Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid, Kareena and others.
