There are many bollywood movies that are being highly anticipated in the year 2011. Ra One, Don 2 and Thank you are only some of them. Although hundreds of movies are released in Bollywood each year, there are some that cause a buzz much before their release because of their actors or actresses or the successful track record of the top directors. 2011 will see a lot of big commercial releases as well as art house and small budget movies. The top ten highly anticipated movies, on the basis of the star cast and/or director are as follows:
Yamla Pagla Deewana
The promos of this movie have already hit the small screen and the initial reaction looks good. Yamla Pagla Deewana has the impressive star cast of the Deol family, including Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Dharmendra. There are multitudes of Dharmendra fans that will go to see this movie only because of his screen presence. It’s a comedy directed by Sameer Karnik and produced by Sunny Deol. The release date is 14th Jan 2011.
Patiala House
Akshay Kumar might have lost his Midas touch in the past couple of years with some high profile debacles such as Tasveer and Chandani Chowk to China but his movies are still highly anticipated. Patiala House has the tentative release date of 11th Februaury, 2011. Akshay will star opposite Anushka Sharma and will be seen with his mother-in-law Dimple Kapadia as well as Rishi Kapoor and Prem Chopra. The movie is directed by Nikhil Advani.

It’s being directed by Anees Bazmee and produced by Ronnie Screwvala. So far the release date has been set at April 8, 2011.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara
The public’s expectation from its director Zoya Akhtar are high, not only because she belongs to an extremely talented film family and has the support of her elder brother Farhan Akhtar and father Javed Akhtar but also because she has proven herself to be an accomplished director with her last movie Luck By Chance. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is a romantic Film starring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol and Katrina Kaif. So far the release date is expected to be May 27, 2011
Agent Vinod
Agent Vinod is a highly anticipated movie and only because of its lead star cast that stars Saif Ali Khan opposite his real life paramour Kareena Kapoor. So far the release date is said to be sometime in May 2011. It is being directed by Sriram-Raghavan and co-produced by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan. The movie is said to have some cool action sequences as well as use of state of the art technology.
Ra.One
Ra.One is said to mean Random Access – Version 1. The star cast includes none other than the King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan (SRK) cast opposite Kareena Kapoor. It is touted to be a science fiction superhero movie. It is being directed by Anubhav Sinha and co-produced by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan. The tentative release date is June 2011. The special effects team for this movie has been hired from Hollywood and Akon has also recorded a song for this movie.
Mausam
Mausam is the directorial debut of Pankaj Kapoor, an acclaimed actor and hence, there are many who are looking forward to see this movie. Also, the star cast of the movie includes his son Shahid Kappor who has done well for himself in the past few years. It’s a romantic movie, and the heroine is none other than Sonam Kapoor. An English version of the movie will also be released, renamed The Seasons of Love. The tentative release date of the movie is said to be in July 2011.
Rockstar
The star cast includes the current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor, along with a new girl. The movie is being highly anticipated because its director Imtiaz Ali’s last two movies Jab We Met and Love Aj Kal were super hits. It is being produced by Ronnie Screwvala and is set for a July 2011 release. Ranbir Kapoor is touted to be the next BIG star of Bollywood and hence any movie of his gets a good opening. Let’s see if Imtiaz Ali lives up to the high expectations that have been built around him.
My Love Story
A Salman Khan movie is guaranteed a grand opening, especially these days when he is flying high on the success of Wanted and Dabangg. In August, My Love Story is scheduled for release. The star cast includes Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor. It’s an action romance, directed by Siddique Lal and produced by Atul Agnihotri.
DON 2
The success of Don has ensured that Don 2 will get a decent opening. It is now up to the director Farhan Akhtar and actors Shah Rukh Khan (SRK), Priyanka Chopra, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani to ensure that they give the audience their money’s worth. Don was a remake but with Don 2, Farhan Akhtar is stretching the original story to produce his own version. The movie is slated for a Dec 2011 release. It is an action thriller being co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani.
